great spot for city strolls and park visits near downtown ottumwa

While staying here for one night, I loved how we could easily walk to both Greater Ottumwa Park and the Wapello County Historical Museum, making our short visit feel full of exploration and fun. the family-friendly atmosphere was great for our kids, with plenty of dining options just a few steps away like Mike's Pizza & Steakhouse and Cafe Country Kitchen that made grab-and-go meals a breeze, but the mini fridge in our room didn’t work and we had to throw out our food, which was disappointing.

We had a nice stay where the kids loved the pool and the breakfast had plenty of tasty options. It was great to unwind in the whirlpool and enjoy some relaxation time after a long drive. The only hiccup was the fridge not working, but it didn’t ruin our fun! 😊

The check-in process was smooth, and staff greeted me warmly, offering complimentary water right away. The room had everything I needed and was clean. Location suited my trip perfectly. it was near everything I wanted to visit. However, breakfast service fell short on my last day. I arrived at 9:10 AM, expecting options, but only found a couple of bagels and some cereal. Everything hot had already run out. It's frustrating when breakfast is advertised until 10 AM but isn't replenished as needed. Also, the mini fridge didn't work, forcing me to throw out some food. The pool didn’t function as expected either. kids went down excitedly but could swim for only three minutes before it closed for safety reasons. The room had a crooked door, amplifying hallway noise, and it made locking difficult. These hiccups made my $166 per night feel overpriced. While the staff was friendly, maintenance and food service clearly needed attention.

I thoroughly enjoyed the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the cleanliness of the common areas at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Ottumwa, An Ihg Hotel. The staff provided excellent service, ensuring everything was accessible and comfortable for seniors like me.

More comfortable seating in common areas would be ideal.
